Could a children’s book app make a fortune?

photo: blog.asurion.com

I have no children. Neither have my friends. But once I had a chat with my colleague who’s happy father. Almost happy. He complained about lack of children’s apps for his iPad. Apps in Russian. He was even ready to start up digital fairy tales development, assuming simplicity and predictability of this business. ‘Everybody gives the children the best’.

‘Maybe’ was my thought at that moment. Now I know that most children’s book apps in Russian App Store has the revenue no more than $1,300 a year on average.

After looking through a portfolio of some companies who are used to develop fairy tales apps in English I’ve learnt that their average revenue per app is almost 17 times higher — $22,000 a year in 2015(according to prioridata.com).

I found some fairy tales earning $100,000. I’ll talk about them a little bit later. But it was a surprise for me that this kind of apps has this level of profits. Maybe I don’t have an accurate data , maybe parents are not ready to pay for this digital content or maybe the best efforts are directed to develop second Uber or Slack…

Let’s discuss it in the comments.

I want to share a list of some app developers and fairy tales that I found during my little research.
