In the museum of cinema in Genoa, I was impressed by meeting with King Kong, even not only with him… There was a huge marble sculpture of headless man behind it, dressed in 17-century fashion clothes. Nature light from stained glass windows filled in a hall. There was a titanic shadow of a stranger on the wall, instead of a shadow of King-Kong.

KIng Kong and handless man in the museum of cinema in Genoa.

In the museum of cinema in Genoa you can find an amazing private collection of original artefacts from films, posters, technical devices, demonstrating the history of cinema. In particular, it consists of figures of superheroes and supervillain, characters of “Star Wars” and other. For example, the T-Rex, natural size, used for the presentation of Jurassic Park at the 50th edition of the 1993 Venice Film Festival. But the most amazing thing is the history of the place, where the exhibition is taking place. You will be surprised.

This building, filled superheroes, was founded in the 16th century. The historic name of this place is “Loggia di banchi”. First, it was the main commercial place in Genova since the 14th century. There was a market of goods and currency. Previously the market didn’t have walls. There was only a dome, which was based on colons. Stained glass windows appeared only at the end of the 19th century. Later it became the first stock exchange, which was moved on Piazza Ferrari less than 50 years ago. The building was damaged due to a bomb attack in 1942. Now city exhibitions happen place there.

Interior of the building is also interesting. There are huge marble sculptures standing along the walls. They demonstrate Italian benefactors. Sculptures were moved there in 1990 from Genovese hospital Pammatone, destroyed in II World War. That Italian man, standing behind King-Kong, probably lost his head due to a bomb attack.

Neighbourship of Italian aristocrats and superheroes create new images. Here one man bowed his head as if he were in a dialogue with Imperial Stormtroopers. It looks like he tried to win some time until «Millenium Falcon» arrived.

Another man is frozen in the same pose as supervillain DC Сomics Black Adam. The hero from 17th century looks bigger and stronger! Who will win?

One more man is looking in the same destination as Terminator. What are they looking for?

I saw a lot of reviews of this museum. But all of them describe only the cinema part of the exhibition. One visitor wishes he would explore the history of Genoa than the history of cinema. Raise your head! Here it is! Genoa, Calata Di Negro, 10. Five hundred years of city history is saved right there. You should feel it and take photo with King Kong or someone.
