To all my students, colleagues, friends and family

To all my students, colleagues, friends and family from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, and Syria, as well as those from Greece, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Nigeria, Kenya, India, Nepal, China, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil, Ireland, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Romania, Hungary, Cyprus and the USA* (and yes, I know people well from all those places), I know you know this, but I’m going to say it anyway. Thank you. Thank you for your efforts to make the world a better place, and know that I welcome you in my countries (I am both a UK and US citizen). Some of you may move to work or study (as I did) and some of you may also be fleeing hardship at home. Either way makes no difference to me; I welcome you here.

*and any countries I may have forgotten!
