For a good many years now, the bitcoin community has been in the midst of a civil war. A war of ideology perhaps, a schism owing to divergent interests and concerns. The enmities created during the period prevented advancement in the space, as everyone focused on the internecine strife, creating uncertainty for stakeholders, causing defections and alienation from the community, and generally leaving little room for technical progress

As there is plenty of literature regarding the bitcoin scaling debate, and extensive recounts of the battles elsewhere, I won’t recap here
