Good post. Great actually, and you’re describing the initial vision for cloud as a distributed computing architecture. The bastardized play on hosted (later called SaaS to add salt to wounds) and calling it cloud leaves people with bad tastes in their mouths about it — but they are not related.

true cloud computing as a distributed model has been described and designed for a good 50+ years (we always knew we needed more tech, but we had the model) or even going back to 1939 when the US Navy sponsored research on distributed work models as a way to build war ships and planes faster (never waste a good crisis by not innovating out of it).
