Hi, Folks! We hope that you enjoyed our previous story about the origins of the Nordres.
We briefly introduced you to their culture and customs, and today we’d like to tell you about something that our players will be facing very soon — it’s the army and combat units of the northerners.
The Nordres Army is not as straightforward as it seems. They are breaking stereotypes about the infantry shield wall with a variety of combat tactics and a wide range of different units, and as a result, they can fight all kinds of foes with ease.
Settle comfortably, as we begin our story.
Berserkers
“My heart is for Norrador, and my sword is for Einar.”
Not all of those who can hold a sword or an axe in their hands deserve to be named a warrior. A warrior has a cool head and a fiery heart, observes the laws of battle, and fealty to Norrador.
Nordres berserkers are fighters nurtured by the northern lands of Eladrea and hardened by countless battles. Pledging allegiance to Leader and Norrador, they fight for their people’s values, fearlessly engaging in any battle, however deadly.
Any boy or girl can be chosen as a candidate warrior. They undergo long, complex training, turning them into excellent fighters, each of them alone worthy of a dozen common soldiers.
Ice Mages
“Blizzard is my name. Snow is my cradle.”
Nordres mages are easily recognized by their slightly tanned skin and heavy armor. They wield great powers that help them to tip the balance in many battles.
The ability to master nature is revealed early in their childhood. Gifted children are usually taken from their families for training in the early years of their lives.
After exhausting training, their nature becomes cold, like the northern Winter. They are barely able to recognize other people’s feelings and rarely express them themselves.
The knowledge and the teachings of the Nordres mages refer to the God of justice, Esper. But they also serve the values of their people.
Archers
“The scouts were noiseless, crossed the path without a trace.”
Nordres archers are hunters and scouts. Their main goal is to silently track the enemy, sneak up from behind, and eliminate anyone who may interfere with the Nordres assault.
Well-trained, these small but deadly units also fight in large battles. A line of agile and accurate archers are able to slaughter scores of their foes with their deadly arrows even from a far distance to the Nordres combat formations.
Most of the hunters serve Meskira, the Goddess of the hunt, and for their faithful service, they are granted incredible powers. Their arrows, as if they were woven from ice, are able to find a breach in any armor.
Gródgu
“Don’t be afraid of an avalanche, fear the reason behind it.”
Gródgu are enormous, clumsy creatures. They are slouchy, with wrinkled, disgusting muzzles, strongly drawn forward.
The Gródgu are native inhabitants of the northern mountains of Eladrea. They have long rivaled the Dranwei over the territory, but they were unable to oppose them with anything but brute strength. Their feeding grounds dwindled and their hunger and anger deepened.
When almost no hope remained, the Nordres reached the northern shores. Not only did they learn how to coexist with the Gródgu, but also arranged an alliance with them.
The Northerners are cladding the giants in pieces of armor and mounting huge thrones on their backs for their mounts, who control these deadly creatures on the battlefield. The Nordres cover Gródgu eyes, and therefore in battles the giants have no fear; trusting the experience of the herdsman, together they form a devastating weapon.
In the hands of a skilled rider, Gródgu is a siege machine with a truly ferocious strength. Throwing enemies asides, crushing gates, and hurling giant stones at the heads of their foes, these monsters will be remembered by any hostile army that ever faced them. If anyone survives.
Ghrathir rider
“You can hide from lousy dogs, but Ghrathir has a sharper nose.”
Ghrathir, a huge, ferocious wolf, is a grave danger by itself. His huge fangs are sharper than any sword: Ghrathir can shred through any armor like chewing rabbit’s bones. And with a rider on his back, armed with a deadly spear, Ghrathis become much more deadly.
Nordres are calling them howling death among themselves. With the speed of the mounted horses, they charge into the enemy ranks, ripping, stomping, and tearing with their fangs everyone who stands in their way.
Unlike Grodgu’s mounts, Ghrathir’s masters grow up with their beasts. They are bound by the same fate and countless fights and share mutual history and trust in each other.
Impressive, isn’t it? And this is only a small part of all available units in the Nordres ranks.
We’ll keep the intrigue until the Alpha release. But you can try to guess which other troops the Northerners might have in their armies.
