As long as we medicalize people’s mental suffering we cannot look at their problems through the correct lens. Science has never proven that these are brain diseases. Although brain is impacted, but we should not mix up correlation with causation. These are soul problems! Unless we attend to someone’s soul, their humanity, by understanding their life history, we cannot really help them. As long as we consider mental illness a biological and chemical problem (an hypothesis which has been rejected by scholarly psychiatrists), we limit our care to changing their chemistry by medicating them. That has failed them badly, and nothing will change until we admit that we are barking up the wrong tree!
