In October of 2019, I made a TikTok after a friend introduced me to the app. He posted a video that went viral, gaining a couple of million views in just a few days. At that moment I realized that the TikTok algorithm is much like how the Instagram and YouTube algorithm was back in the day. Right now TikTok is favoring content creators and pushing new content. It’s one of the few apps that can make content go viral overnight!

In just 3 months, our TikTok videos have received over 750,000 views in 12 videos. Our TikTok is in the money and lifestyle niche where we show people how to make money and enjoy life. While we only have 10,000 followers, our engagement is extremely high. People are leaving comments and asking questions, which drives views up. One of our videos has almost 500 comments. Now let’s get into how you can get famous using Tiktok.

How To Get Famous on TikTok

  1. Film a high quality 15 second video
  2. Use quality audio or a trending song
  3. Select an eye catching thumbnail
  4. Use all 30 available hashtags
  5. Post at least once per day
  6. Ask viewers to leave a comment

Film a High Quality 15 Second Video

The first step in getting TikTok famous is to shoot a quality video. The video content can really be about anything. However, the common theme for a viral video is to have good quality footage. It also helps to have an interesting video, whether that means a pretty outdoor scene, a fancy car, an attractive person, or whatever. Regardless, having a quality video is a must. We’ve found our 15 second videos perform better than 30 second or one minute videos, however you should experiment with this.

Use Quality Audio or a Trending Song

Then having good audio or music to go along with the video is important. If you’re talking in the video, make sure your voice sounds crisp and clear. You can also overdub the video with music, which I highly recommend as TikTok has so many songs built in that you can choose from.

Select an Eye Catching Thumbnail

The next step is picking a good thumbnail. I think this is one of the most important steps since when people are scrolling through a hashtag looking for content, it’s the thumbnail that will catch their eye. It’s easy to forget to set the thumbnail (also called cover) but don’t forget to do this! Make sure that your cover thumbnail is eye catching, popping, and makes people want to click on your videos.

We’ve also been adding text to our TikTok videos. We use different text blurbs that pop in and out during different times in the video. I’ve found that videos with text blurbs tend to do better, whether this is algorithm related or not I’m unsure. Experiment with adding text to your videos.

Use All 30 Available Hashtags

Before you hit post, make sure to use all of 30 hashtags. To find hashtags, you can either find content creators that you’re trying to emulate to see which hashtags they’re using. Or search by hashtags and enter in keywords about your topic. Then you will be given a list of hashtag ideas along with how many posts are associated with the hashtag. I like to do a mix of popular hashtags and unpopular hashtags. Meaning, I’ll choose a couple of hashtags that have a few billion posts, then some with a few hundred million posts, and then some with only several hundred thousand posts. Since some hashtags will be harder to get your content to show, having a mix of hashtags gives you the best chance for your video to be seen.

Make sure to always hashtag the “for you page” by using the hashtags #fyp, #foryou, and #foryoupage.

Post At Least Once Per Day

You should post at least once a day to increase your odds of having highly viewed content. I also believe the algorithm favors consistency, so the more you post the more the algorithm will favor you. We typically post our videos around 7:00 p.m., Pacific standard time, which is 10:00 p.m., East coast time. However, you should experiment with the times you post videos. We don’t post on weekends as during the week has performed best for us so far.

Ask Viewers To Leave a Comment

Within the videos, we either verbally ask or put in text for people to leave a comment, which drives engagement. The more comments your video has, the more likely TikTok’s algorithm is to push it to the top. Meaning, comments are always a good thing! Also, make sure to reply to people’s comments as this will add to your comments count.

The most important thing is to just make content, this is the only way you have a chance of getting TikTok famous.

How To Make Money On TikTok

Now that we’ve covered how to get views on TikTok, it’s time to make money!

Here are 5 ways to make money on TikTok:

  1. Partner with a brand and charge per post
  2. Monetize your Instagram or YouTube and have it linked to TikTok
  3. Mention an affiliate discount code for a product
  4. Send people to your website and collect their email or phone number
  5. Post your Cash App or Venom and ask people to send you money

Partner With A Brand and Charge Per Post

Once you have a TikTok following, partner with a brand that will pay you to promote their product. With this method, you’ll get paid regardless of whether their product sells because of your post or not. Charge these companies a flat rate (rate will depend on your following) every time you post about their product or incorporate their product into your TikTok video.

Monetize Your Instagram or YouTube and Have it Linked to TikTok

Encourage people to follow your Instagram or YouTube accounts, which you can have monetized. TikTok allows you to have an Instagram and a YouTube account associated with your TikTok where people can easily find these from your profile. If you already have partnered with brands on your Instagram, you can now get more views because people are going from your TikTok to your other accounts.

Mention an Affiliate Discount Code for a Product

Post and talk about a product in your video while mentioning that you have a discount code in your TikTok bio or within the video text. Have this discount code also be an affiliate tracking code for the company that you’re promoting, so every time the discount code is used you earn a commission. Since you can’t put URLs in the bio, this is a way around having a direct link.

Send People to Your Website and Collect Their Email or Phone Number

Encourage people to reach out to you for advice within your niche. We’re in the “finance” and “how to make money niche”, so we encourage people to reach out to us either through text message or through email. We then answer all the questions to the best of our ability. At the same time, we add them to an email list or a texting list and push out relevant content over time. This content is monetized with affiliate offerings and advertisements. Collecting email addresses and phone numbers are a great way to make money long term.

Post Your Cash App or Venom and Ask People to Send You Money

You can post your Venmo or Cash App username and ask people to send you money. While we don’t do this, I know a lot of people that get money sent to them through these apps. You need to have a pretty large following, and there are only certain people that are able to pull this off, but might as well give it a try.

Start a TikTok Now

If you are trying to build a brand, whether it’s a business brand, a personal brand, or a website following, you need to have a TikTok. It’s one of the few apps where you can post a piece of content, wake up, and have millions of views. This sort of reach doesn’t happen on YouTube and Instagram anymore. As the TikTok algorithms change, this opportunity will go away, but for the time being, new creators are highly favored on TikTok. Plus making content that is only 15 seconds is super easy, and doesn’t have to be as polished as YouTube.

I highly encourage you to create a TikTok and start posting today. You never know if you can get TikTok famous or make money on TikTok without trying. We are very glad we created a TikTok while helping people in the process.
