Office Girl

So, I realise it has been a while since my last post, however the data connection here is not always reliable. Since last time many things have happened. We volunteered at Haenertsburg Spring fair, celebrated my 19th birthday, went to church, ran a holiday club for school children and planned for our first week teaching in the schools.

View from the tea tent we served in. This village is a 15 minute drive away from where we are living, and it almost feels like a different country! The heavy rain on the Sunday really made me feel at home.

Playing ‘Duck, duck, goose’ at the holiday club! The kids were great and it was a valuable time to get to know them better before we start to teach.

There were a few smaller ones who also had fun! Was a great chance to get out the sun!

I had a really lovely and special birthday! Thank you to all who gave cards and wrote lovely messages. Surprisingly, this did not make me homesick and on that front I am doing a lot better. It’s amazing how God uses people to bless others, and there have been so many people that we have met and are working with that are helping us to feel more at home here and integrate with society. I have also really learnt that even though I may be 1000's of miles away from home, everything that my family have taught me and their love for me is the same here as at home and I’m so grateful!

You may be curious as to the title of this post?!? Well, this week Lucy and I are staying at the Thusanang centre. Lucy is going out with the mobile crèche and I am working on the office! I never imagined myself as an admin assistant but realise that this is valuable experience for teaching as I hear there’s a lot of paperwork! 😉 It’s great to be able to spend more time with our host partner and get my head around all that they do. Today I helped pack food parcels that the church donate to give to some of the local families in need, sort of like the food bank. On Thursday I will have the opportunity to deliver them which I am looking forward to.

So, yeah, life is good here! There are challenges on a daily basis on a variety of levels but I’m trusting in a God who is bigger than every problem!

Until next time,

Lots of love,

Ele xxx
