A nice short article.
The oft-quoted 10,000 hour rule is an oversimplification of what it takes to reach mastery in any chosen field. What to practice, how to practice, and at what frequency can all influence how quickly one can progress. For anyone who is interested in the topic, I would recommend reading Gerald Klickstein’s “The Musician’s Way: A Guide to Practice, Performance, and Wellness” and Jonathan Harnum’s “The Practice of Practice: How to Boost Your Music Skills.” Although both books are written for musicians, many ideas can be applied to other professions.
