Presumably the cases before the court that day had defendants, witnesses, and victims.
The common man would say that the party which committed a crime against “me” would be a “bad guy.”
. . . yes that’s Joe Blow, on the date in question, Joe Blow beat my infant to death, forever scaring my life . . . but Joe is just a confused guy and meant no harm. As a matter of fact, Joe found Jesus and even went to church with me, and everything is forgiven, no hard feelings, turn Joe loose, he promises to behave better in the future.
To demonstrate your trust in Joe, why don’t we have the public defender hire Joe to babysit his infant whilst the public defender and his spouse vacation in Tahiti?
Or is the guy who beat your infant to death forever a bad guy ?
