The fact that there were a lot of houses built on sand spits, and beach fronts might have a lot to do with the large amount of damage from a relatively weak storm.
A photo of cars stored in a lot which is either below sea level or in a flood plain doesn’t stir any feelings of sympathy from the thinking man.
Not that I’m a bible thumper . . . a well read man might find it unwise to expect anything but disaster from constructing or storing anything of value on sandy ground. Especially when such is specifically warned against in the old testament of the bible, which is how many thousands of years old?
