When people of color stop wearing their color as a chip on their shoulder, they discover no one else really cares about color. But when they plant that racist chip up there as a challenge to all comers to knock it off, the atmosphere is negatively charged and thinking people avoid the situation, avoid people of color with negative consequences for all.

Consider that Indian immigrants are often much darker than American black people, but don’t receive very much discrimination, so its not really about color.
