In the past few years we have seen that almost anything that moves can be made better by slapping an electric motor to it: bikes, kick scooters, unicycles, roller skates, longboards, skateboards … They last long enough for your daily commute and are fast and easy way to go from point A to point B and are super fun to ride. The real effortless and cool way of personal transport are electric skateboards. But where can you ride them? Truth is, almost anywhere. There are so many different products available, designed for riding on different terrain, the only thing you need to do is to pick one that will fit your needs. To make it easier we made I little overview of different option available.

Skate Parks, Sidewalks and Footpaths

If you plan to use the electric skateboard as a recreational device, there are plenty of very affordable options that you can choose from. If you do not need a real transportation and you are just looking for something to have fun riding around on weekends, running errands, and you will be mostly riding on flat ground than you do not need that much power. You can check out some of the smaller, one motor boards like Swagboard, Blink Board or something similar.

Streets

If you are going to ride your electric skateboard on street, you will need more speed. And if you are going to use it as a way to commute, you would also need a bigger range. That’s where you should start looking into dual motor board that have more power, can climb hills, and last longer. Some of the good and not expensive options are Liftboard Dual or Backfire 2nd Generation skateboard.

Of course, there is a Boosted Board as a ultimate urban street cruiser.

Dirt Trails

Sometimes you just want to leave the pavement and look for more excitement on some other terrain. That means that, besides power, you will need wheels that can handle the rough terrain. Evolve All Terrain is a good example: it is a skateboard that can run just fine on streets, but you can also take it off of the beaten path because it’s got 7” All terrain wheels. There are also many off road electric skateboards available like Fiik Big Daddy or E-Glide All Terrain.

Mountain Trails

And now for the most extreme rides — electric mountain boards. Mountainboarding is a cross over between skateboarding and snowboarding, with elements of other extreme sports such as BMXing. And now it got even better thanks to the power of electric motor and batteries. These off road e-boards are equipped with pneumatic tires that give you a higher clearance and can handle dirt paths, sand, mountain trails and rocky roads. E-mountain boarding is the perfect activity for athletes who love extreme sports, skaters who are always in pursue of new adventures, everyone who enjoy snowboarding, mountain biking and love the outdoors.

And possibly the best electric mountainboard ever built is the Australian-made BajaBoard. Constructed as an ATV crossed with a snowboard, the BajaBaord runs on your choice of either a 600Wh or 900Wh battery and can hit up to 31 miles per hour while zooming around the city or your local dirt trails. The large 10 inch pneumatic tires paired with independent suspension for each wheel allows the 4WD board to crunch over stumps and rocket off of jumps on rides as long as 18 miles. And for those who want realtime feedback on their speed, battery life, and throttle — there is the handheld remote with an LCD screen that displays all of the stats you could want. There’s even LED headlights and taillights to help you navigate through the dark.
