So how do you reckon banner blindness fits into the embedded ads? Speaking for myself, as a regular instagram and facebook user, I’ve learned to spot the *sponsored* posts and ads and just keep scrolling, and I know I’m not alone. The average click-through rate for Google ads (sneaky as they are) is 0.06% and half of those are accidental.
I suppose it’s possible I’m being affected without my knowledge but I genuinely believe you can learn to tune these things out, which is why advertisers are always driving for more and more sneaky ads.
I think with targeted ads you’re at least being show something relevant which you might be interested in. When I’m shown an ad which is personalized I am much more likely to click on it because it genuinely has interesting content for me.
