Who Cut the Cheese?
A Successor’s Mindset vs a Mediocre Mindset
“The wealthy get wealthier.”
“They have everything handed to them.”
“Life is soooo easy for them.”
Words often muttered, heard all too loudly, and often believed…by those who know not of success in their own life.
First things first. The majority of successor’s were once alone, had once watched their bank account to assure no overdraft, and lost it all in order to gain their dreams. They have been mocked, criticized and have been spoken words of disbelief to. One difference between the mediocre and them is that they believed when others didn’t. They were willing to lose big to gain bigger. Their heart burned for their vision to come to pass. They knew that without their “dream come true” life would have little meaning, they would be empty day in and day out, and they would waste their life away on mediocrity.
Not only is all of the above a solidified fact, but above that, they pay attention; they see what most do not see.
Who cut the cheese?
Picture this: You are searching the cooler shelf at the grocery store for 1 pound of cheese. You see a solid 1 pound block uncut for $4.00; but beside that block is a 1 pound bag of pre-cut cubed cheese for $4.85. Ahhhh, somebody cut it for you so that you don’t have to…and you like the idea of that. It’s quick and easy. Yes, it may be a bit more pricey but less work for you is always a bonus.
Sounds, like a simple choice with minor consequence…a consequence of a mere 85 cents. However, here is what most do not see. The questions that one needs to ask are:
- What is your time worth?
By spending the extra 85 cents you just bought about 90 seconds of time. Fair trade? What if you got paid 85 cents per 90 seconds at your job?…adds up quickly…huh?
2. What are you doing with the time saved by having someone else cut the cheese?
Watching tv? Reading the latest gossip? Scrolling through social media? Talking on the phone?
3. What is the overall reason that you don’t want to cut the cheese?
One less thing you “have to” do? Laziness?
The mediocre may not even see this as a second thought, let alone important; but the successor’s have already thought this through and calculated their decision making. If the mediocre purchases the pre-cut cheese to save them time it will more than likely be in order to trade their 85 cents and 90 seconds for the tv, phone, and/or gossip. If a successor purchases the pre-cut cheese it will be in order to trade their 85 cents and 90 seconds so that they can eat while they work on their dreams. However, until the individual is a successor the truth be told is that they cut their own cheese because they understand the trade involved with having someone else cut their cheese.
It’s all about TM: Time vs Money. If the 85 cents is of little consequence then spend it in order to use your time wisely. However, when does it stop? How much more money do you spend on individual prepackaged ready-to-go food? Individual fruit cups, mac-n-cheese, yogurts, bags of chips, soup, veggies and dip…etc? If each item is approximately 25–85 cents more expensive it has then been decided: you trade money for time.
I get it…your time is important to you in such a fast pace world. I also get that most are doing “nothing” with the time saved. It doesn’t stop with just pre-cut cheese; it also trickles into fast food and everything else that you find you spend more money on in order to save you time.
Next time you are faced with a TM decision to make, stop and think about what you are going to do with your time saved and if 90 seconds is worth paying 85 cents: $45 per hour…and that is just 1 item.
