Why the MacBook Pro Mid 2012 is still the best MacBook in 2018

Since their switch to Retina, Pro MacBooks have fallen flat and lost the Pro.

In my quest to find the Ultimate MacBook Pro, i found out the Mid 2012 Hi-Res antiglare model is the best: 16GB of ram, maximum 4TB disk space, a wide array of standardized ports built right in, replaceable battery and MagSafe, with the sacrifice of resolution and processing power.

Below is a rundown of the things you’d be gaining, keeping or sacrificing going for the Mid 2012 model in 2018. Will five year old tech still compete with todays offerings? To me, the answer is a loud and clear YES.

What would i be sacrificing?

First: 36% less performance. During my quest i’ve compared all MacBook Pro models based on GeekBench scores. The result show that going for a Mid 2012 would be 36% slower than the newest model. There would be 19 models faster. See the graph below. The red line is the score of the MacBook pro from mid 2012.

Secondly: the resolution of the MacBook Pro Mid 2012 is just 1680x1050 pixels. From working distance i cannot really distinguish any pixels. So while the newest MacBook Pro’s rock resolutions of 2880x1800 i really don’t see a difference in day to day work (i’m an ethical hacker / programmer).
