Using a shortcuts saves a lot of time! Everyone knows it. Although lets calculate average time savings per year.
Standard working day is 8 hours long. Keyboard is faster then mouse when it comes to coding. On average shortcuts save you 2–5% of your entire coding time. In the end of the year thats a 5–10 days of free time!
Note : I will overview keymap for Mac OS users, although keymap is easily converted to Windows users if you exchange Cmd to Ctrl.
Over my years of experience I have collected shortcuts step by step from different sources:
- Standard Intellij Idea keymap https://resources.jetbrains.com/storage/products/intellij-idea/docs/IntelliJIDEA_ReferenceCard.pdf
- Whenever I do anything with mouse in Android Studio I would check if there is a shortcut for that
- I have read and compound a lot of articles, e.g. “Tips and tricks for Android Studio / Intellij Idea”, “Most used shortcuts”, “Improve you productivity”, etc
Keymap divided by sections, coloured to different colour for quick navigation through:
- General
- Refactoring
- Editing
- Control version system
- Navigation
- Debug
All of shortcuts has been written in small amount of space, where you can print this keymap on A5 small format.

With my colleagues and friends we just print it and even laminate, put it on our desks just to have quick access to shortcuts any time until we remember most of it.
