Grab Testnet Funds On Arbitrum Goerli (Arbitrum Nitro Faucet)š°
Hey there! Letās grab some Arbitrum Goerli funds!
Goerli is an Ethereum Testnet. It essentially behaves like Ethereum, but money is fake there.
Arbitrum is an Ethereum Layer 2. A Layer 2 is a blockchain, with its own applications layer. At regular intervals, it commits to Ethereum mainnet all its new state, thus leveraging Ethereumās security and resilience.
Arbitrum Goerli is simply the Layer 2 testnet for Goerli, meaning itās a Layer 2 of Goerli.
Recap: Arbitrum One (also called Arbitrum) is a layer 2 chain of Ethereum. Arbitrum Goerli (also known as Arbitrum Nitro Goerli Rollup) is a Goerli layer 2.
To deploy contracts, interact with contracts etc. on Arbitrum Goerli, youāll need Goerli Ethereum (goerli ETH) to pay for āgasā.
š« Prerequisites for grabbing free testnet coins:
- Have a wallet on your phone and/or browser. The simplest wallet to install is probably Metamask. Youāll need to install the metamask mobile app.
- Create a wallet (never share your mnemonic or private key)
- Know your address:
Note that the address is the string starting with 0x
in between the balance ($0) and the Receive, Send and Swap buttons. Note that it is the same for all EVM chains (Ethereum, Arbitrum, Goerli, Arbitrum Goerli). It is the chain ID that changes. This means that when staying in the Ethereum ecosystem, you have one unique address (with one unique private key, donāt share it).
š§āāļø How to add Arbitrum Goerli to your metamask networks?
Some networks are pre-populated in your metamask. For instance Ethereum mainnet. Neither Arbitrum nor Arbitrum Goerli is pre-added to your metamask. Letās add it now.
- In your metamask mobile app, at the top of the screen (in the wallet tab), click on the Wallet button
- Select Add a network.
- At the top, select the Custom Networks tab.
Then, fill the fields using:
- Network Name: Arbitrum Goerli
- RPC Url:
https://goerli-rollup.arbitrum.io/rpc
- Chain ID: 421613
- Symbol: GoerliETH
- Explorer:
https://goerli-rollup-explorer.arbitrum.io
Source: Public Chains | Arbitrum Documentation
- Then, click
Add
There you go! You should be able to see your funds now. If you donāt have any Arbitrum Goerli ether, you should see 0 on your balance. But fret not! Letās go grab some.
šø Grabbing some Arbitrum Goerli Ether
Option 1: Asking on Twitter for a bot to drop you some coins
- Tweet at @nitro_devnet with the keywords ānitro testnetā and your blockchain public address like so:
Option 2: Use the Goerli faucet then bridge your funds
Go to Faucet Goerli: https://goerlifaucet.com/
- Add your wallet address and click Send me Eth
- You should receive some Goerli ether. Careful, this means youāre getting funds on the Goerli testnet, not the Arbitrum Goerli testnet.
- Go to the Arbitrum Bridge:
A bridge is a web app allowing you to transfer funds or assets between blockchains. Here, we want to transfer funds from Goerli to Arbitrum Goerli
- Transfer funds and await success!
- And tada! Weāre all set. You should see some Arbitrum Goerli in your wallet.
