“Morning After Thoughts” 3/6/16
Please keep the comments coming!
1. Cruz had a YUGE night at the perfect time. He’s essentially knocked Rubio out as a reality and turned this into a 2-man game.
2. The so-called GOP “establishment” (Nat’l Review, Romney, Bushes, Graham, Rubio, Ryan, Weekly Standard, CPAC, etc) have exactly zero understanding of the voters they are allegedly trying to influence.
3. 65–70% chance Donald J Trump will be on the ballot this fall. Either as the nominee of the Republican Party or as an independent. (Would love to hear others’ thoughts on this)
4. If Rubio hasn’t dropped out yet, even if he loses Florida (as long as it’s by no more than 3–5 pts), I don’t see him dropping out pre-convention. He apparently lacks that sense of shame or embarrassment the rest of us have. (Or when billionaires tell you to keep doing something they’re paying for, you do it)
5. If Rubio does drop out the so-called “party establishment” won’t have a voice in the game for the months leading up to the convention and having A (even Rubio’s) voice is vital if this whole contested convention lunacy is to happen.
6. It’s all about delegates not about state wins or polling. Can’t say it enough.
7. Bernie’s gonna stick around for a while. As long as he has the money there’s no downside (for him) to hang around. The question is when does it start to impact the party (see: Kennedy/Carter).
8. HRC will go into full general election mode by the end of the month — if she isn’t there already.
9. Lazy journalism brings us headlines like “Trump supporters’ nazi salute at rally”. It also gives us a candidate — a pathologically lying candidate — who nonetheless gets away with “Believe me.” as an acceptable answer.
10. Read Louis C.K.’s letter. It’s a little much, but still…
