Morning After Thoughts — Super Tuesday Edition (3/2/16)

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughtful/provoking responses to previous “morning after thoughts”. Keep ’em coming, the brain power of my friends astounds me.

1. I’m not sure what’s more delusional by the GOP “Establishment”, believing Donald Trump won’t be the nominee or believing Marco Rubio will be.

2. Chris Christie has never not been a fame chasing useless tool.

3. I have too many friends in the media, friends I respect the hell out of to place too much blame on the press’ shoulders for Trump. But come on…

4. I long for Tim Russert (or even dare I say, Dan Rather) to question Trump. How was this question not repeatedly asked last night: “Mr. Trump you say you disavowed David Duke on Friday, yet on Sunday you said you didn’t know anything about him. How can you disavow something you don’t know about?” ALSO “Mr. Trump when you speak about ISIL or Iran you are wholehearted in your denunciation, why didn’t the KKK warrant the same level of rejection?”

5. If republican voters really wanted to end the Obama era, they would have coalesced around a consensus candidate and get there quickly. The fact they have come up with Trump suggests any number of things, including: Trump’s voters are not republican, meaning he’s brining in new angry people (potentially very troubling for HRC); there is no Republican Party; a large percentage of this country sees Idiocracy as aspirational or (and this is the most frightening) we have for a long-time under appreciated the level of deep seated, unseen hatred for the “other”.

6. From the photog getting choke slammed earlier this week, the usual taunts and ejections of attendees and things like the Van Jones/Jeffrey Lord throw down on CNN last night, it pains me to say it but I really think someone is going to end up getting seriously seriously hurt (maybe killed) at one of these Trump rallies. If the Twitter ugly abuse in the feeds of the conservatives I follow is any evidence we’re really close to that terrible outcome. And Trump is doing nothing — NOTHING — to prevent it. (Quite the opposite with his: “I’d like to punch that guy” comments).

7. The whole ‪#‎nevertrump‬ movement is far too little far too late. There must be rooms full of oppo that hasn’t been used (which could be very good for HRC). One must wonder how Reince Priebus, or any of the senior staff for any of the other candidates have jobs.

8. If there is any candidate on earth tailor made to run against Trump it is Hillary Clinton. The Clintons can get as nasty as him, she’s been dealing with bullies for 20+ years, she isn’t afraid and has nothing to lose by going for the jugular constantly at this point.

9. I guess the GOP Est. has to wait until Rubio can compete in Florida just to be fair before they jump ship to Cruz — who would have thought that would ever happen? But Marco can’t make any claim to the nomination with just MN. PS: WTF is Kasich sticking around for? He’s already got a fat MSNBC contract lined up. The winner take all states change the game a bit, but doesn’t Trump have to lose all of them in order to be denied the delegates needed for nomination? (Or overwhelming vast majority?)

10. The “participation primary” is lame. The strategy of winning ‘just enough’ to force a floor fight is insane pie in the sky and only the party of trickle down economics would believe in it.
