Elijah Manley issues a statement regarding the events in Parkland, Florida.
Statement regarding the tragic events yesterday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Broward County, Florida.
Yesterday around dismissal, Nickolaus Cruz, 19, wounded 20 people and tragically murdered 17 people in an act of terrorism at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Stoneman Douglas is one of Broward County’s best public educational institutions, with so many smart and bright young minds. I offer my sincere condolences to the parents, students, faculty, and young people who lost someone close to them, or were traumatized by this event. Broward County Public Schools is offering grief counseling in partnership with Henderson Behavioral Health and other partners. No one should have to go through events like this. Our generation deserves to go to school in a safe and secure learning environment without having to worry about life or death, and our government owes us an explanation and due action to prevent this from ever happening again. I renew my call for more funding to school districts to address mental health. Young people like Maddow Pollack, Alyssa Alhadeff, Martin Duque and others should be in class right now, preparing for prom or graduation. Instead, their families are preparing for funerals. Having spoke to a few of the parents, I ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as justice is served during this hard time. As stated yesterday, my campaign is suspended until further notice. All my operations will go into helping the Stoneman Douglas community recover from this act of terrorism. #Parkland #StonemanDouglas #MSDstrong#Broward #Flapol
