First, racist against what? White cops? Racism, as a power structure, exists when a privileged group marginalizes a less privileged group. Understanding racial bias in society and commenting on it surely cannot be called racism. Obviously I do not believe all white people would do what Officer Loehmann did, nor do I think the majority of white cops would. But understanding the broad strokes of institutionalized racism is necessary, albeit it makes you susceptible to cries of “racism.” I will link to the article I mentioned here in my original piece.
