Interesting analysis, specially the numbers and percentages part. I think many times is lazy writing. It betrays a lack of imagination and/or empathy. Anyway, it seems some people would like to deny data and numbers which means that it’s worth to explore a bit more the topic, after all, there are more tropes that could be used instead of rape to achieve the same in a more efective way.
To put an example, if you want a female character motivated by revenge, you could have an accident with a drunken driver. It’s also overdone, even the “twist” were the driver might be a recovering alcoholic, works the same. Yet we keep seeing rape 5,3% of scripts. It’s telling.
