Los Angeles is as thirsty for rain as Oscar Alvarado is for a scrap of integrity, and the California heat beats down on it unrelentingly. The patriarch of a seemingly picture-perfect Mexican-American family is obsessed with the weather in Maria Amparo Escandon’s “L.A. Weather,” but there are storm clouds approaching that are far more dangerous than anything a weather report could even foresee. Oscar’s spouse, Keila, is desperate for an emotional flood of connection to take the place of the continuous drone of the Weather Channel after an expensive secret comes to light. Their three girls are affected because they are all battling their own personal issues. The Alvarados are forced to face a question as harsh as secrets, betrayals, and the very real fear of eviction swirl around them. Subscribe to the 30-day Audible trial and listen to L.A. Oscar, the weather-obsessed patriarch of the Alvarado family, is terribly hoping for a little rain because L.A. is bone dry and parched. He is preoccupied with a pricey secret that keeps him from focusing on anything else.

Keila, his wife, thinks she has no choice except to dissolve their marriage because she is so yearning for a life that is a bit less Weather Channel and a little more intimate. Their three daughters; Claudia, a tough-minded television chef. Both Patricia, a social media whiz who has a remarkable talent for connecting with people but not with her lovers, and Olivia, a famous architect who harbors feelings of guilt over gentrification, are taken by surprise and left doubting everything they know. Along the way, each will need to examine her own relationships critically and make some difficult choices.
