The Shut-In Economy

Great article, thank you Lauren. This urban shut-in trend dovetails what’s been happening in the suburbs for years. Kids aren’t playing outside anymore, they’re inside playing video games or watching TV. Where moderate sized houses use to be on lots with a large yard, those houses are being torn down and huge houses rebuilt on the same site with practically no back yard. No gardening, no one hanging outside anyway. 30 years ago when I would go for a walk in my neighborhood I would see lots of kids on their bikes around the neighborhood, or playing basketball in the driveway, now they’re inside.
