Today I took a visit to The Underground Coffee House. I’ve been living in Bellingham for a few months, I’m new to the area, and attending Western Washington University. A classmate of mine recommended that I pay this place a visit, because it’s one of the most popular hangouts on campus. She said a lot of people go there to study, hang, and that people perform at Open Mic nights. Sounded good to me so I decided to check it out! I really enjoy coffee shops, I like the low chatter, the way that everybody is busy doing something, I find it all to be quite peaceful.
The first thing that came to mind when I entered this place was that I found it to be rather accommodating and spacious. Here it took a photo to send to my boyfriend, who is also a lover of coffee shops. I told him that we should come check it out sometime. I like the set up that they have, it’s like a few little living rooms, and then there’s tables and bars where you can eat and/or do homework on. It’s very comfortable.

While I did find this place to be accommodating, I must admit that the furniture in itself was quite outdated. These things had to have been filled with dust and mites for the last 25 years at least. I think a remodel needs to be in this facilities near future.
Though I would have rather not sat on the furniture, it didn’t take away from the fact that their coffee was surprisingly good. I can’t say it’s the best cup of joe that I’ve ever had, but I was surprised at how good it was. The barista was rather friendly and helpful too, which was a nice turn from some other baristas that I’ve had to deal with in the past. The prices were pretty fair, they give a discount to students who use their ID cards to pay, as does everywhere on campus, which gives students a nice break.
If you’re looking for a pretty chill place to hangout with your friends, then I would definitely recommend this place. However, I have been to other coffee places in the Bellingham area that are far more impressive than this. I’m looking forward to paying a visit to an Open Mic night though!
