How to Escape From a Cult in the 21st Century

I have been reading some of the articles on Buddhafield after having watched the movie Holy Hell and I don’t get the reluctance I see among journaliststo call a cult a cult. Buddhafield is a cult pure and simple and cannot in any way be related to your local Catholic Church or your family. What you see in the film Holy Hell is systematic and daily thought control and anyone who wants to make light of that simply has no idea what they are seeing on the screen. If you think a nice multiple decade stint in a cult would be good for you spiritually and intellectually, boy are you kidding yourself. Yes, these people interviewed for this film try to put a good face on what they endured and they try to see as much as they can in a positive light but unless you are absolutely blind, as some commentators appear to be, it is clear that these people are crying, fighting back tears, and breaking apart as they try to make statements that they learned from the experience or grew and are better people or made a life for themselves nonetheless. The pain that these people, particularly the ones who were repeatedly raped, endured has to have been indescribable. The tendency I see to make light of that, I find insensitive and disgraceful, or to say I would have liked to have done that, i.e. participate in the fun activities of the cult (which were mere facades for the darker, more malignant side of the cults activities) is superficial and for me personally incomprehensible.
