A cash-only system seems to work well for a lot of people, which is great! It’s always baffled me, though. Cash feels like play-money, I fritter it away much more easily because it’s already been taken out of my bank account and feels already spent. Plus, it’s really hard to keep track of how much cash you have left — you have to actually take everything out and count it! I find it much more useful to use a debit card, where everything is written down in my register and I can see at a glance exactly how much money I have. But maybe that’s the key — I use a register, so religiously that I don’t even think about it. That seems to be weirdly uncommon, which is, again, baffling. Just looking at the balance in your bank account is sooo not sufficient — how can you tell how much of that money is spoken for, or already spent in transactions that haven’t cleared yet? Point being, I’m going to stick with my debit card because that’s what works for me, but I’m glad cash is working for you.
