Peloton AD Should Be Inspiring

People seem to be missing the point

The above picture echos a lot of the fuss about this commercial, but what makes you think she doesn’t need it, and why on earth does she need a divorce lawyer?

Is it because she is thin? Is it because her husband gave her a practical gift that she is excited about? Or, as others have suggested, is it because her facial expression doesn’t match what you think it should?

I had been thinking about all of the hoopla around this commercial, and then I read this article by Chris Churlinov this morning. He made the point that it was the presentation that was the biggest problem with the ad primarily that the woman’s expression was somehow less than stellar.

While I can appreciate what he was saying, I think people have read way to much into this commercial and facial expression being the least of them.

Let’s start with the receipt of the gift.

Peloton is a costly exercise bike, and then you have the subscription for the live lessons. The bike was something she wanted, and her husband was good enough to get it for her.

There is nothing wrong with a practical gift, and if most of us are honest, we would prefer those kinds of gifts. There is nothing in the ad to…
