I truly believe this particular issue is about bullying/trolling, not plagiarism. What the troll did was absolutely wrong, but I don’t think “plagiarism” accurately describes his offense. If you’re looking at it from a purely fair-use perspective, there’s nothing actionable there.

However, the troll is a despicable human of the sort Medium ought to shun if it truly gives a damn about building a community. The troll’s sole purpose was to mock and shame a member of a historically marginalized group using her own words, and that’s just a shitty thing to do. Medium needs to decide whether it wants to host that sort of thing. I hope Medium chooses to respond with “hell no.”

Not everybody deserves a high-profile platform for their opinions. Declining to provide one to a troll (and an unimaginative one at that) does not equal censorship.
