These Hot Summer Nights

in ten lunes

Sometimes I kinda
love summer,
between sweat and sun

The hot mess of it
suits my heat,
of uncomfortable

Ways that push me out
of my box,
crazy thoughts mingle

Everything becomes
not what if,
but more of why not

It must be the heat,
that sultry
tease, ice cream drips

Down my hand’s back,
makes me dream
of flying, climbing

To find you ready,
waiting…a
Rocky Road oil slick

Drowning in glossy
bits of dusk,
freshly dried kindling

Ready for the fire,
pull on up
a chair, stay a while

We’ll be here all night
feeding souls,
juiced on summer’s high
