Couldn’t Stop Recommending If I Tried…

And I won’t, because making recommendations is basically my love language. (Is it my only language?) To share the love and to make sure my friends don’t feel over loved, I channeled my recommendation energy into this list of current favorites.

Nuzzel (App) 🤓

I started using Nuzzel recently to keep up with the news on Twitter. Rather than looking through a bunch of tweets to find relevant articles, the app shows me relevant articles based on how many of my friends tweeted about them. Plus, I can still see the tweets and interact with them directly from this app.

Pod Save America (Podcast) 🇺🇸

I plan my running workouts around the Pod Save America (and Pod Save the World) schedule. Pod Save America is “a no-bullshit conversation about politics.” In each episode the hosts talk about what’s happening in the country and explain it in a way that I actually understand. It’s like I’m sitting at the dinner table with a bunch of smart people and instead of leaving the conversation feeling more intimidated, I leave feeling more empowered.

Headspace (App) 🙏🏼

Headspace helped me start a kind of consistent 10–15 minute daily mindfulness habit. Andrew Puddicombe (the founder) helps apply meditation to your real life, guides you through each practice, AND HE HAS AN ACCENT. The app is slightly gamified which can help with motivation, but mostly I love how simple and straightforward it is. I get it. I can do it. I can and feel see my progress.

Dear Evan Hansen (Musical) 🎶

I saw Dear Evan Hansen in New York and I laughed and cried and laugh cried through the whole thing. If you are a human person, you will feel this story.

Side story: My Dad asked me to narrate the soundtrack on our drive to AZ and I almost died of excitement… I believe I said something like, “THIS IS MY DREAM!” I’m really working on my ability to play it cool.

Space (App Kinda) ✌🏼

Space attempts to address digital addiction by breaking the dopamine loop. Whaaaat? Basically, it creates new icons for the apps you want more control over like Facebook and Instagram. When you click on those icons, Space shows you this 👆🏼screen before launching the app giving you a minute to decide if you really wanted to open it. If you do, great. If you don’t, go back to what you actually want to do.

Born a Crime by Trevor Noah (Book) ❤

I love Trevor Noah. I think he’s smart, funny, and incredibly talented… and this book still caught me by surprise. In his book, Trevor inspires empathy and perspective through his personal story and the history of apartheid in South Africa. You’ll learn a lot, laugh a lot, remember just how big (and often f’d up) the world is, and feel grateful for humanity all at the same time.

(Vegan) Bulletproof Coffee ☕️

I recently stumbled upon a butter-free version of bulletproof coffee and it has changed my life. My mornings are so much more productive because with bulletproof coffee, I no longer experience a coffee crash. I repeat: No. More. Coffee. Crash.

The recipe (blended):

  • Coffee
  • 1 tsp-1 tbsp. of organic (raw) extra virgin coconut oil or butter (Start small if you’re new to using MCT’s in your coffee.)
  • 1–2 tbsp. of non-dairy milk
  • Ground vanilla if desired, or alcohol-free vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1 tsp or tbsp. raw cacao and some cinnamon

BONUS: Why Men Love Bitches (Book) 😻

I labeled this a bonus because I haven’t actually read this book and yet I continue to recommend it. A friend recommended it to me recently and I have been sharing my own version of it ever since. This book is about dating as a strong woman who stands up for herself. My version of this book is basically a recap of my decision not to check social media while I’m working. Close enough. However, I have heard that this book is great by multiple people, so here it is!

That’s it! Hope you love them as much as I’m loving them. ♥️
