About Me Ellie V

What’s your name, major and hometown?

My name is Ellie Vonderhaar, my major is Advertising, and I am from Bettendorf, Iowa.

What would be the most useful thing for me to know about you as a student?

The most useful thing to know about me as a student is that I do well with real-world examples.

What do you wish was different about school?

Honestly, I wish textbooks weren’t so expensive. As for the classes, I wish there were fewer large lecture halls because I struggle to pay attention.

Describe a moment in school last year when you felt really engaged. Why do you think that moment was such a positive one for you?

In COMM 1200 last year, I felt completely engaged in my group final presentation. I spoke for the introduction and conclusion, and needed to be completely aware of what my partners were saying. It was a positive situation because I knew we did well, I felt more comfortable presenting, and the grade showed for it.

What do you think teachers think about you, and what do you wish they’d think about you?

I think teachers see of me as a go-to for class discussions because I always have something to say. I wish teachers knew how hard I work to juggle classes and activities outside of school.

Tell me about a teacher who you feel knew you well. What kind of student were you in his or her class? What did he or she do to get to know you?

A teacher I thought knew me really well was my theology professor. I felt extremely comfortable around her because of the passion she had for what she was teaching. This comfort I felt sparked me to be completely honest in my discussion posts and papers. She got to know me by knowing how to approach a first-year student.

If you could build a school, what would it look like?

One reason I fell in love with Marquette was the history of the buildings, so if I could build a school it would be in an area with old buildings. I would renovate the buildings so that they are more modern on the inside, but they would all have stories. My hope would be that the buildings would be different colors and sizes, but all unique, and that new memories would happen inside of them.

What do you wish I would ask you so that I can be a good teacher for you?

I wish you would ask me how I and the other students test. Some students, including myself, do not test well depending on the format. I am great at retaining information, especially if I care about it, and tests do not always give me the chance to do that.

What makes a weekend day great for you?

A great weekend day would include going shopping. I love to try on clothes and pretend that I can buy anything I want.

Anything else to add?

Yes, I am so sorry I was late. I promise it will never happen again. It is funny because I have had three night classes and they all started and 5:30, so I didn’t even have a second thought looking at the schedule.

Finally, include a photo of yourself in your Medium post so I can start putting faces to names.
