In November

I never thought Hades would strike us.

Demeter mourns when Persephone is taken in the winter;

She allows the green to perish and the air to turn bleak.

Everything around us becomes dark and dismal.

The heart of the goddess crestfallen in her helplessness.

The god of the underworld just takes who he pleases.

First he took Grandfather and then he took You,

Perhaps it was a pattern to happen only in November.

Demeter knows she will lose Persephone,

But why didn’t we anticipate it for You and Him?

Demeter knows she will secure Persephone back,

But we will never get you back.

We could blame heinous Hades for the mourning he caused

Once four years ago and then again two years later.

There was a white blanket falling from the sky both times,

It was time for Demeter’s mourning and then it became ours as well.

But we are not gods or goddesses who can live forever,

We are the lesser on earth with our ends always ticking near.

It was time for You to go,

So You could be with Him again.
