When I applied for Bossed Up Bootcamp, I was at a crossroads in my career. I had gone from being escorted out of the office at my previous job to starting a new job with more responsibility and higher pay. I was dealing with a terrible case of impostor syndrome, second guessing whether I deserved to be in this new role in the first place. I had applied for the bootcamp because I wanted to gain the courage to ask for the feedback from my managers so that I could be the very best in my role. But I ended up learning an even bigger lesson: that I deserve the things that I want in life, and that I belong in every room I find myself in — I am more than just “good enough.”
Before bootcamp, I would hold back from pursuing opportunities because deep down, I thought that I didn’t deserve it. But the truth is, getting “bossed up” means applying for that job, inviting that executive for coffee, or applying for that fellowship because you KNOW that you deserve every good thing that comes into your life.

Being a boss also means letting people people help and support you along the way. There are so many people who have helped me get to where I am now — my amazing husband Neal, my family, and my village of fierce women, some of whom are here tonight. So to everyone who has ever met me for lunch, looked over my resume, called to check on me, gave me a shoulder to cry on — THANK YOU. I wouldn’t be where I am without you.
