Duality

In case you haven’t realized it yet, the “other” side thinks exactly the same of us.

We’ve abused them. Taken from them. They struggle. Our police can’t protect. Our military is terrorised. They have lived through eight years of leftist Obama tyranny. They are afraid.

They KNOW we’re the bad guys.

But no! They are racist and sexist. They stole this election. They voted against their own interests. They’ve obstructed and rejected our progressive dreams. Obama never had a fair chance! They are the selfish haters.

We know THEY are the bad guys.

It’s a mirror image of complaints and unfortunately, there’s no common ground.

There is a duality here that must not escape us.

To add insult to injury, the sanctimonious Sanders and Stein supporters hate anyone who isn’t in lock step with their ideological purity. They’ve lost all credibility and are out of touch.

Indeed, we are all out of touch. We are a country deeply divided and our political system is no longer working. Instead, our system fosters irresponsible divisions that don’t allow us to work together to solve our problems.

At this point, we need to hit the panic reset button.

Maybe the scorched earth people are right, let’s do away with it all and start over. Otherwise, we are doomed. It will never work like this.

That’s not to say that I’m not taking sides, because I am. There is a duality here that mustn’t escape us.

“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

As a woman, as a liberal, as a progressive, as a foreigner, I must take sides. I must take my side.

I am certain that Trump and his cronies are the oppressors.

And, in just a few months, it will become clear to both sides what we’ve allowed to take hold.

God have mercy on us all.
