The point I was making with that line was that that was my *assumption* — and the rest of the article is walking back from this assumption, this definition of data ethics. I’ll edit to make that clear (although hopefully for anyone reading on it does become clear).

The rest of the blog is very much making your point — that what is accepted practice now may not be accepted practice in the future, that it’s hard to predict what data practices may be seen to be ‘unethical’, that it is context specific.
