Thanks Sherman! I’ve been following Path to Product for a while; it’s a great resource for new PMs. I’ve been passionate about coding since my senior year of college when I stumbled into a Computer Science for the Humanities course — it made me realize what every working programmer knows from experience, that software development is a powerful tool for solving complex real-world problems (like those we encounter in healthcare!).

More than anything moving from Product to Engineering has given me great appreciation for the rigor of the systems and frameworks commonly employed by engineers. Product covers such a varied set of roles and contexts that it hasn’t quite come as far as Engineering has in the development of best practices and concrete tools, though a lot of progress has been made in the last decade or so (outcome-based product management and Jobs to be Done are two broad toolkits that come to mind). I’m excited to see so many engineers (like you!) moving into Product, though, as I think it will create even more opportunities to bring the discipline of Engineering into that space.
