I think I’m just going to stick to the fiction tag

Too much drama.

I like reading think pieces. I think most professional opinion makers aren’t much more qualified than you or I. Medium is a great forum for discussions of culture and politics, but lately it’s all too nasty.

If we can’t disagree with civility then what’s the point of writing a think piece? It seems to me most internet opinion writers are trying to lead a tribe and not participate in a dialogue. It’s true of the left/right divide in the country. It’s true of our politics broadly and it seems to be true, increasingly on Medium.

Today I was essentially called a misogynist because I questioned a piece on open discussion of menstruation. Now I don’t really care, I’ve been called worse for less. What bothered me wasn’t the disagreement, it wasn’t the harsh rejection of my post. It was the rejection of me as a person. I must hate women because I don’t completely agree with a self-avowed feminist. I think anyone who’s read my fiction knows that not to be the case.

Anyway.

I came to medium to write fiction I think I’m going to stick to reading it too.

Peace, y’all.
