Of Course, All Lives Matter
Everyone agrees with that (a poem)
But right now we’re talking about black lives in particular
Because there’s a lot to talk about
And of course it might not be comfortable
But it’s a conversation that needs to be had
Because there’s little to no accountability for police who kill a person
Especially if they’re black or brown.
If all lives matter, then we need to reevaluate our priorities
If all lives matter, we need to be more giving
If all lives matter, then refugee lives matter.
We need to let refugees in and share our resources with these lives
Because those lives have nowhere to go in a war torn country
Wars that involve our government
If all lives matter, then immigrant lives matter.
We need to open the borders, and nullify NAFTA
We need to reunite families whose lives have been torn apart
We need better international policies that
Won’t ruin other lives and force them to move,
And to cross dangerous paths
If all lives matter, then poor lives matter.
People who cannot earn a living wage,
Living check to check, who cannot go to the doctor’s
Healthy lives matter.
Children who are hungry at school
Hungry lives matter.
Mental health lives matter.
LGBTQIA lives matter.
Red yellow brown white orange blue green purple all lives matter.
Can we agree on that?
But right now
We’re talking about black lives
Because black lives matter.
