There’s no such thing as a low-fee future in decentralised systems unless sharding works.

Whether that’s true depends on the level of transaction demand, compared with the state of technology. We had a low fee past because demand was low in comparison to cost of running a full node. If demand is relatively low compared to tech capability in the future we can have the same thing without sharding.
