During my first labour, I said to my husband, ‘I think I’m just going to die now’. I am glad I didn’t, and I wasn’t even close, but it felt close at the time. We have (thankfully) lost the sense that childbirth is life threatening. It is not a nice flowery experience, even though we survive more often these days.
