The Bat of Exmoor, 2015

I like how you can see the bones of the wings. I feel like I get a sense of how fragile they are or how skinny they are and how thin the skin is that’s stretched over them.

I like that the piece seems pretty original, a bit strange, something fantastic and something historical.

I guess I like the brightness because it seems to create a mood of excitement. Or maybe it’s both expressions that create the impression that both subjects are excited.

I like that the bat doesn’t make eye contact with the man because it reminds me of when you are enthralled by something and everything else just fades away and you are fixated on that one thing.

I guess I don’t like that it doesn’t seem very relatable. I can’t relate to it easily and so it doesn’t arouse anything in me.
