Wednesday, November 29th, was the International Day of Solidarity for the Palestinian People. On this day, every year since 1978, we celebrate, honor, and commemorate the Palestinian people and their culture, land, history, and heritage. Every year is a somber year for Palestine. This year is concluding with a heightened sense of gloom.

Palestine Solidarity Day commenced during the extended “humanitarian pause” from Israel’s invasion of Gaza. This was the first pause after a brutal seven-week bombardment of Northern Gaza. Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, and allies around the world have been standing with the people of Palestine.

On this day of solidarity, millions came together in the spirit of community and collective action, fully aware that Palestinian liberation will continue to be a long and brutal fight. And today, the 6-day humanitarian pause, came to an end. The bombing and airstrikes reignited the trauma upon a population still in the beginnings of the healing process from prior bombardment.

Imagine that feeling. Living in constant fear of what could happen to you and your family. Surviving a seven-week nonstop bombardment. Expressing a sense of gratitude to Allah that you survived. Getting a bite to eat and some water. And then being bombarded again. Losing your life, your…
