Smart People, was the name of a project where I worked in team, together with two of my colleagues. Smart People Inc. ( we didn’t choose the name…so, no blame on us) is an educational company born in 2014. They currently offer in-person, language courses (English for Spanish speakers and Spanish for English speakers) for kids from 12 to 18 years old. They’re finding many students are unable to attend the summer camp due to cost and time reasons, but still want to access the curriculum. The project is about creating an online learning platform for students of 11–18 years old. It will transform the in-person classroom experience into a 100% digital experience that can be accessed by students at a lower cost. especially keep their attention and track their progress.

PROBLEM: Young people of 16–18 years old needs an engaging e-platform to learn a foreign language, because they lack self-discipline and cannot attend the campus classes.

SOLUTION: Smart camp focuses on getting language learners up to speed by offering a unique way of learning a foreign language that matches their lifestyle. The app helps to learn whenever the user has 5 minutes to spare.

So after Surveys, Interviews, Personas etc….we came with the idea of using Music as engagement tool. The teenagers never get tired of music and will be funny and with a less “academic” aspect but still efficient. Plus with the use of smart-phone, tasks could be completed everywhere, outdoor or in public transportation rather than close at home. So we start….

and finally

The student receive weekly tasks that includes Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. They need to complete the tasks in a certain time, in order to progress with their study and they can only access to the next weekly task if the previous one is completed.

After testing and testing, we changed and upgrade the UI aspect of the app

Let’s have a look at how this works.

and more….

We thought that, using the famous music icons as Rihanna and Ed Sheeran, was a nice path to engage teenager to study, especially on an app and especially during the summer.
