The top Android 10 features you should know
Android 10 was officially released on September 3, 2019, for supported Google Pixel and Essential devices. Though for quite a long time it was available for beta testing under the name Android Q, however, this time Google shocked everyone because unlike other versions the Android Q doesn’t have a defined sweet based dessert name it’s just plain Android 10. But do not worry about the new features are still pretty sweet!
Today we will talk about the top 5 features, some of them were introduced in beta test and other ones added later. So make your device ready and keep a sharp eye on XDA while reading the feature lists. Let’s get started!
Dark mode system settings: Finally the great wait is now over for the dark lovers! The Android 10 has a system-wide Dark Mode, yeah! You can launch setting and enable dark mode, it is as simple as that. This will change the color code whole operating system as well as supported apps. That means, most Google and 3rd party apps will have a dark mode as well. Hands-on with the latest stable release has the option to toggle dark mode from Quick Setting tile.
Buttonless navigation: Last year’s release of Android 9 has introduced several notable adjustments to the Android navigation bar since Android Ice Cream Sandwich or 4.0. This year Google is going all-in on gesture navigation, as more and more smartphones ship with “edge-to-edge” displays and lose their buttons and chins at the bottom. Google wants to regulate gesture navigation throughout the Android ecosystem and this is somewhat questionable.
Wi-Fi and QR codes: Sharing your WI-Fi credentials always feels awkward. Fortunately, Google took the time to address the issue. The new Android 10 has a new feature that has a feature that lets you create a QR code for your WI-Fi network or if you want to join a WI-Fi network you can scan the QR code directly from the device’s WI-Fi settings. If you are using Android 10, you can use it right now. Go to WI-Fi settings and then choose your connected network, move to the Share button with a small QR code just above it.
Location control: People who are concerned about online privacy will be happy to see Google’s new direction towards having a reliable privacy policy. After waiting for years, finally, Android 10 is getting more control over how apps use services like the location. Till 9.0( Android Pie) users were only able to give permission to the GPS either all the time or not at all. However, things have changed now. Apps like Google Maps will only use your location/ GPS while you are actively using it. Not only is it good for privacy, but it is best for the battery as well.
Privacy and Security: Android 10 is coming with a dedicated privacy button in the setting menu. Launching it will show the various permissions your apps are using. Previously to check the app’s permission, users had to literally hunt for individual app setting. Fortunately, things are changing for good. From the dedicated setting button, you can revoke or grant permission for specific apps. Take a few minutes to learn specifically what can be done with the new Android 10 Privacy settings page. Trust us, it’s worth it.
These are only the top 5 features. However, before going to the conclusion, we would like to draw your attention to a few more features as well:
- Foldable support
- ‘Bubbles’ multitasking
- Expanded Digital Well-Being
- Security updates in the background
- Face ID-style authentication for logins and purchases
Of course, several other new features will simply pop up as you need them — for instance, more details on some notifications. The features described here are probably only the beginning and who knows, we might get 10.1 in a month or two!
