I was just about to write pretty much what you wrote. And this is so common, so many diaspora Jews write about Jewish issues and distance themselves from Israel because they think that will get more non-Jews on their side. BTW, this is an issue in Israel, too. I live in America, but I was flabbergasted when I read about a Palestinian woman who was shot dead by an Israeli guard outside a Jewish gated community. They had posted a sign, “We don’t go to the Temple Mount,” i.e., we’re not those Jews you hate, you shouldn’t kill us, kill the others. It would be helpful for all of us to stop pandering to people who hate us, whether European or Palestinian.
