What is Fan Service in movies? A cheat or a reward for the Audience’s loyalty?

Probably one of the best pay offs in movie history is “On your left.” A scene that was created for the Winter Soldier but was repeated towards the end of Endgame to the audience’s delight. If you don’t know what I mean just Google it or pull it up on You Tube.

Disney included some call backs in their latest movie Wish. Because Pixar has become such a big part of what Disney offers, I think some of the references were kind of weak and/or hard to find. Basically nothing Pixar related was included for their 100th movie.

Probably a right sized nod was included in Iron Man 1 where the original Rhodey said “maybe next time” looking at his suit. Ironically there would be no next time when that specifc actor (Terrence Howard) was replaced before Iron Man 2.

Pretty much the whole Episode 7 of Star Wars was a call back to the original A New Hope. In that case it leaned too heavily on previous ideas to bring anything new to the table.

Episode 8 basically drove itself off a cliff with the exception of dispatching with Snoke mid movie. So much so that JJ Abrams was brought back to save the day for Episode 9 and more or less succeeded.

For Episode 7, Leia and Han were the primary call backs. For Episode 8, it was definitely…
