We helped Fintech startup BlinkPay with technical expertise and a working Proof of Concept to support their capital raising efforts.

BlinkPay is a startup changing the way consumer invoices are paid. Founded by Daniel Karehana, it is working on challenges never before overcome in New Zealand. Daniel has an impressive accounting and banking background, and had successfully navigated another Fintech company prior to forming BlinkPay.

The BlinkPay team chose to solve a seemingly simple problem — why is it so difficult to track your personal bill payments? Especially now, when everything is so easily available online. One of the main issues is that personal bills are often scattered across emails and various online accounts, or are sent via post in physical form. Keeping track of bills can be at best frustrating, and at worst, potentially dangerous to an individual's financial health if bills are lost or overlooked.

BlinkPay set about solving this challenge by enabling businesses to deliver their invoices directly to their customers' internet banking platforms for review, storage, and payment.

Businesses would also be able to manage billing from the BlinkPay platform.

The Path Forward

Integrating directly with banks is a challenge never before achieved by an outside party in New Zealand. Solving the problem of personal paying bills in an easier way was also not a new idea — many have tried before and hit major roadblocks along the way.

Also, it’s often a challenge for young companies with very small teams to build tech-heavy solutions and be able to satisfy the security and other requirements of their potential customers. Large financial institutions struggle to integrate with a solution that isn’t technically robust. Working with experienced software partners like Propellerhead can help speed up development considerably and provide this much-needed technical expertise, satisfying the mandate of these large potential customers.

Working with BlinkPay was meaningful for us — we were impressed with the progress BlinkPays founder Daniel had made before we came on board, his understanding of the problem and various stakeholders, and his prior domain experience.

In the space of several months, we worked with BlinkPay to provide technical guidance to their team, satisfy the mandate of a strong technical partner, and an initial proof-of-concept of the BlinkPay solution to help secure the support of further partners, and continue with fundraising efforts.
